Ontology and Data Warehousing How Data Warehousing Investments Can Deliver Continuous Roi

چکیده
Executive Summary Data warehouses are designed to aggregate data and allow decision makers to obtain accurate, complete and up to date information. A data warehouse stands or falls on the quality of the data it contains. Most existing warehouses contain a subset of the available data and allow a limited range of queries on that data, because it is impossible to justify the cost of development of a more complete system. As a result, the quality and value of information suffers while managers are missing key facts required to make informed decisions.

Ontological Engineering in Data Warehousing
In our previous work, we proposed the ontology-based integration of data warehousing to make existing data warehouse system more user-friendly, adaptive and automatic. This paper further outlines a high-level picture of the ontological engineering in data warehousing. Its basic theory includes building ontology profiles for warehousing in terms of domain ontology and problemsolving ontology, an...
متن کاملOntology-Incorporated Mining of Association Rules in Data Warehouse
With the rise of the Internet and the development of various electronic information resources, mining useful information from large databases has become one of the most important issues in information research for users. Data warehousing plays the key role in providing data for data mining tools to explore knowledge. However, there are still many problems that cause users to spend extra time to...
متن کاملSemantic Integration of Structured and Unstructured Data in Data Warehousing and Knowledge Management Systems
Nowadays, increasing information in enterprises demands new ways of searching and connecting the existing information systems. This chapter describes an approach for the integration of structured and unstructured data focusing on the application to Data Warehousing (DW) and Knowledge Management (KM). Semantic integration is used to improve the interoperability between two well-known and establi...
متن کاملCloud Warehousing
Data warehouses integrate and aggregate data from various sources to support decision making within an enterprise. Usually, it is assumed that data are extracted from operational databases used by the enterprise. Cloud warehousing relaxes this view permitting data sources to be located anywhere on the world-wide web in a so-called “cloud”, which is understood as a registry of services. Thus, we...
متن کاملData Driven vs. Metric Driven Data Warehouse Design
Although data warehousing theory and technology have been around for well over a decade, they may well be the next hot technologies. How can it be that a technology sleeps for so long and then begins to move rapidly to the foreground? This question can have several answers. Perhaps the technology had not yet caught up to the theory or that computer technology 10 years ago did not have the capac...
